As we look back on the first few months of the year, we’re grateful for how full this season has been—full of family, ministry opportunities, and new doors opening in ways we didn’t expect.
The year began in a special way with a visit from my dad. He came to Lima for an entire month to help teach English at a Chinese church in San Borja. What started as a plan for him to assist in classes quickly turned into something more—he was asked to teach the advanced class. He stepped into the challenge with humility and courage, and we had the privilege of working together to prepare lessons. Serving side by side in ministry was a meaningful experience, and it was encouraging to see him step out in obedience to do something completely new.
During this time, God continued to stir our hearts toward English ministry. When we first arrived in Lima, we were surprised by how many people already had a foundation in English and were eager to practice. Even so, we had delayed pursuing this avenue because of other responsibilities and our focus on digital outreach. But in March, after conversations with some younger journeymen here, we felt a renewed sense of direction. Together, we began exploring the idea of launching an English ministry for college students—using language as a bridge to build relationships, serve others, and ultimately create opportunities to share the gospel and invite people into Bible study.
In God’s perfect timing, a mission team from the U.S. arrived in Lima just as we were making plans. They partnered with us to film promotional content for the classes and helped spread the word among college students. One of the biggest blessings was seeing our WhatsApp group grow from about 25 people to 126 in a very short time. It’s been exciting to watch that kind of momentum build.
We officially launched our first cycle of English classes in April, and we’re thankful for the response so far. We’re trusting that God will continue to bring the right students and open hearts—not just for learning English, but for deeper conversations about faith.
Amid all of this, we were also able to spend several weeks back in the United States. Amy and the kids began their time in Richmond, Virginia, attending a homeschool conference. From there, we traveled to Georgia and Tennessee to reconnect with family. Those visits are always refreshing—time with grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles is something we don’t take for granted.
During our time in the U.S., Amy and I also celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. Her sister and brother-in-law generously gifted us a night out at a restaurant, which gave us a chance to pause and reflect on God’s faithfulness over the years. It was a simple but meaningful way to celebrate all that He has done in our lives.
Back in Lima, we’ve also recently begun hosting a weekly Bible study in our home. It’s been a natural and encouraging step—we provide the space, while someone from our church leads and coordinates the group. It’s already becoming a valuable time of connection and community, helping us build deeper relationships within our local church.
As we move forward into the rest of the year, we’re thankful for how God has been at work in both the big and small moments. We’re excited to see how He continues to lead, especially through the growth of the English ministry and the relationships forming around it.
